Objectives of the Rural Conservation Clubs

OBJECTIVES

The primary objectives of the Rural Conservation Clubs Program are:

To support innovative research into environmentally-sustainable agriculture in Ontario.

To encourage farmers and conservationists to get together to exchange and test ideas about environmentally- sustainable agriculture by providing financial assistance for the formation of Conservation Clubs.

Environmentally Sustainable Agriculture is important for many reasons:

To Protect Soil and Water; to Maintain the Sustainability of Our Farms; and
To Ensure the Long-term Viability of Ontario Agriculture.

Agriculture Canada has been working with Ontario Farmers for many years to develop farming methods that are environmentally sustainable. The purpose of the Ontario component of Canada's Agricultural Green Plan is to maintain and enhance the natural resources that the Ontario Agri-food Sector uses and affects. Rural Conservation Clubs are an important step along the way to achieving the Goals of the Green Plan.
